Courtesy of the News Tribune  Longtime Clover Park High School boys basketball coach Mel Ninnis has died, his son, Ryan, confirmed to The News Tribune. Ninnis, 65, was battling stage 4 bladder cancer, a diagnosis he received June 10. He was transferred to a Franciscan Hospice center in University Place, where he spent the past few weeks of his life surrounded by friends, family and former players. WIBCA Plans July Hall of Fame Banquets Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (WIBCA) will induct two years’ worth of Hall of Famers at their July banquets.  The Eastside ceremony at Davis High School on July 20 will honor head coaches Eli Juarez (Davis), Roger Sonderland (River View), and Dean Wagenaar (Sunnyside Christian) while also inducting assistant coaches Gary Archer (Ephrata) and Ted Wilkins (Goldendale).  For his many years of service at the Yakima State Tournaments, Gene Rostvold will receive the Ed & Shirley Pepple Service Award. WIBCA MASK UPDATE Due to continual complaints of participants not following masking guidelines, the WIAA in partnership with WSSAAA, WOA, WIBCA and WSGBCA is authorizing basketball officials to remove participants for improper masking compliance. The Governor’s Office and State Department of Health require masks to be worn over the nose and mouth at all times indoors. If an official sees a mask improperly worn, they have the authority to remove the player until the next dead ball. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Adams, mother Elizabeth Adams, and sister Suzanne Rowe. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sally (Luark) Adams, brother Lewis Adams, sons Kirk (Roz) Adams and Jay (Sheri) Adams, daughter Melissa (Sam) Luna, and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is with great sadness that the basketball community and the state of Washington said farewell to retired Mercer Island head basketball coach, Ed Pepple, who passed away on the morning of September 14th, 2020. To everyone he was “Coach Pepple”. After a battle with cancer, former Edmonds Community College men’s basketball coach Keith Kingsbury died on Monday, Aug. 24, less than five weeks after his 80th birthday.
